- Prince George’s County has a population of 921,865 people
- The majority population in Prince George’s County is age 25-34; (14.64%; 134,958)
— (This speaks to the fact that this population is in a sense raising itself; there are fewer “elders” to mentor this generation/ population. - There are 118,908 households with children and 11,958 of them are living below the poverty level.
- 9.33% unemployment compared to 7.69% of the state of Maryland
According to the Center for Disease Control Community Health Profile:
- 43.7% of children in Prince George’s county live in single parent households
- 15% of children in Prince George’s County live in poverty.
— Children who grow up in neighborhoods characterized by concentrated poverty are more likely to be a victim of violence; use tobacco, alcohol, and other substances; become obese; and engage in risky sexual behavior. - 22.8% of adults reported have inadequate social supports.
